Turned [3]
Title: Turned
Pairing: Yunho, Jaejoong
Rating: PG
Length: Chaptered
Genre: Supernatural, vampire!AU, fluff, humour
Disclaimer: I don't own anything apart from the story.

Summary: Yunho is one of the Turned, a newly made vampire, completely lost in the ways of the undead for his Maker was cruelly taken from him by the sun the very next morning before he could impart the wisdom of ages (the most important being AVOID THE DAMN SUN). Jaejoong happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is ordered to take the newborn under his wing, much to his dismay for he has never been careless enough to turn anyone, and now he’s saddled with a responsibility that…well…is for eternity unless one of them decides to say hello to the sun.

AN1: Wrote this in less than 2hrs so if it’s mistakes galore or if there are formatting problems, please excuse them.

AN2: Happy actual birthday Jaejoong :-)

Jaejoong is a light sleeper and the brush against his mind wakes him just after twilight descends.

“You’re usually up early.”

The vampire scowls, blocking out the Elder penetrating his mind as he stretches out and yawns. The winter days mean less sleep for the days are shorter and for most vampires, twelve hours is a basic prerequisite. They may be stronger and more powerful, but the downside also means they need more rest. He can function of course, but whether at maximum ability is another thing.

A fitful squeak by his side reminds him of his guest and he turns, finding the baby bat no longer wrapped securely in his burrito.

In fact, the strange little thing is upside down in the Calvin Klein briefs, and judging from the bits that Jaejoong can see of the infant, he is sleeping on his belly and burrowed into the warm underwear till only bits of his feet can be seen.

He roughly guesses where Yunho’s head is, and he gives it a gentle rub, getting a soft chittering sound in response before the little squeaky snores start up again.

Shaking his head and chuckling quietly, the older vampire returns to his back and stacks his hands behind his head.

“You’re getting good at that.” The familiar voice clearly refusing to leave him alone.

“I have to be since both of you seem to think it’s amusing to pull out thoughts from every passing vampire, especially me.” His reply is sardonic, though without the usual heat for his tiny little burden has eased his mood somewhat that evening.

“Why haven’t you been home?”

“Nice change of subject. Why would I go home? I don’t like Europe. This is my home. I was born here.”

“You were made in Europe.”

“Through no choice of my own,” Jaejoong replies, again with no malice. It’s just a statement of fact.

His voice is a mere whisper in the absolute darkness of his coffin, and even a coffin-mate would need to strain to make out the words. Yunho is out cold so there are no worries there.

The vampire is used to this. They drop in occasionally, whether solo or together. He’s already seen one of them when he decided to land the defective Turned in his lap, but he hasn’t seen this one in months, and thus he tolerates the conversation.

He feels the pause at his words, and the even the silent but mild chastise on his mind as the much much older vampire allows the weight of her power to press against the mind of the younger vampire.

“Perhaps I should order you home to teach you some manners.”

“I’m sure the Council would enjoy that. I believe it’s called an abuse of power, Mother. Though since Father happens to lead them, I’m sure he’ll let you off lightly.”

“Don’t you want to know why I’m calling?”

Jaejoong shrugs in the darkness, lowering a hand to scratch at his belly. He stretches again, enjoying the popping of his bones.

Next to him, the little bat continues to snore.

“Are you here or is this a long-distance call?”

“We had to return last night. I saw you with your Turned.”

“You mean the Turned that he decided would be a good idea to drop on me? I know I’ve avoided most of your random nagging about being a solitary vampire but why did he do this to me? I’ve followed every single law and even by-law of the Council. There isn’t anything anywhere that says that I cannot be alone. There’s nothing anywhere that says I have to be a Maker so why now? Why this? Why him? If the two of you want a bigger family so much, why don’t you just make more huh? Then you can just forget I exist and leave me alone.”

“Don’t be childish. We are bound to you just as you are bound to us. You were just a little more independent than expected and your father allowed it. He seems to enjoy the fact that his son is so headstrong and we were more than content to leave you alone, but there is a history you don’t know about and never cared to learn.”

“Why would I care about vampire history? It’s not like I’m going to be tested on it.”

“Solitary vampires are always watched with suspicion because all the ones that have turned rogue were solitary. The fact that you passed your hundredth year without making any Turned drew the attention of the Council. The fact that you have long passed your second hundred is something that has become an actual concern and it is only the position of your father that has forced the vocal to keep their thoughts to themselves.”

“Then let them stay silent. Father is meant to stay in power for another thousand years or something exceedingly long like that. Who knows, I might get tired and decided to meet the sun anyway and—“

He chokes off in pain as he is slapped from within his mind. His mother’s anger is palpable.

Next to him, the little bat stirs for the man’s agitation somehow seeps through his deep sleep and he slowly awakens.

“I will make you come home if you continue talking like that.”

Pinching the bridge of his nose as the pain subsides, he knows the female vampire is more than capable. He’s been summoned mid-feed before, his body forcibly transforming as she possessed his mind and brought him to her, and in all honesty, he never ever wants to go through that again.

Powerful vampires should never be crossed.

“I’m sorry, Mother,” he apologises, knowing that she can tell if he’s sincere. For some reason, she’s always gotten exceedingly tetchy whenever he comments about meeting the sun, even in passing. He’s tried asking the other about it, and all he can gather from the roundabout answer is that they had lost a child to the sun several hundred years before they had even considered making him and she is still bothered by it.

“Visit soon, Jaejoong. Otherwise I will bring you to me. You need to make sure your Turned will be able to hold his own against the crowd here because you know what they are like.”

Jaejoong’s confusion and questioning grunt is loud in the confines of the large coffin and the tiny baby bat finally shakes himself from the clutches of his deep sleep.

“Huh? Why would I need to bring him with me? And you know very well he’s not my Turned. He’s someone else’s that I was forced to adopt.”

The sigh in his mind causes the hair on his arms to stand on end. This vampire is not the sighing sort and he dreads what she might say next.

“I don’t know if you can blame your father for this. I did a little, but then he has a point about why it never even came up in the conversation. You have to admit that you are pretty much a confirmed bachelor and—”

Jaejoong’s voice is sharp, startling the tiny baby bat who sits up, still covered by the briefs, the crotch portion on his head. If only his minder could see him, he may forget his agitation with his own Maker for the wee thing is adorable even if you cannot see a single part of him, so thoroughly covered in the vampire’s underwear.

“What does me being a confirmed bachelor have anything to do with anything?”

Yunho recognises Jaejoong’s voice which is the only reason why he isn’t panicked. His warm blanket smells like the vampire too, and he hugs the comforting cloth tightly around him, wondering if there’s a non-bat size version of it that he can sleep in. He can’t remember the last time he had slept so well. He inhales the vampire’s scent deeply, throwing himself off balance and he topples over with a loud embarrassed squeak.

Jaejoong’s hand immediately comes down on the tangled bundle, rubbing absentmindedly as he waits for the reply.

“Do you know how Turned are made?”

“Yes,” he replies curtly. “Who doesn’t?”

“Do you know there’s a different way to make a particular type of Turned?”

“I don’t understand. Turned are Turned. They are sucked dry and become vampires. What other way is there?”

“Turned that are specifically made by their Maker to be a bonded lover are fed their own blood as their first feeding.”

“Since I haven’t made any Turned I don’t see what the…” Jaejoong trails off. “Wait…No, that can’t be right. He has fed before right? Right? Mother? Mother?”

Jaejoong’s hand has inadvertently gripped at the tiny tangled Turned and the baby bat starts chittering in distress, the sounds muffled by the cloth, struggling as the vampire’s hands tighten over him.

“His Maker met the sun less than an hour after he was made. Your father and I had to fly over quickly to make sure he was ok and had somewhere safe to sleep, and when we awoke the next evening, your father went straight to you. I explained to the Turned the basics of what happened and he understood, but he did not feed from anything or anyone…except you.”

“Why didn’t you feed him?” Jaejoong’s voice is practically a wail, unable to believe what has happened.

“You’re more than enough for me. I don’t need another son.”

“But, MOTHER,” the vampire reverts to being a child, lifting both hands to his head and tugging at his hair in frustration. “Mother, what the hell am I supposed to do? I didn’t want this. Can’t it be undone?”

Little baby bat boy Jung Jung Yunho is seeing stars, finally let loose, he draws in great big heaving breaths after being practically squashed. Crawling out from underneath his warm Jaejoong-scented blanket, he peers around in the darkness as his eyes adjust.

“No. It is one of the strictest laws of our kind that a bonded pair will never be broken. If someone were to harm Yunho, it is death. The same goes for you. Both of you are now forever protected and untouchable unless there are suicidal vampires out there.”

Her voice has taken on a measure of amusement which her son picks up on.

“Are you happy about this?” he asks incredulously. “Are you and Father a pair?”

“For too many thousands of years to count, yes.”

“Thousands of years…” Jaejoong echoes as he closes his eyes, imagining thousands of years with a bumbling baby bat boy and he shudders. “I’m going to be the first vampire to go insane.”

“Most vampires actually don’t make lovers like this. They may make someone to be a lover, but not a bonded paired lover. There are fewer pairs than you might think because you’re not far off the mark about going insane. Both more often than not, end up voluntarily meeting the sun at some point or other.”

“Great. Just great. Did father think it was funny to forget to mention this rather important piece of information? Why didn’t he tell me not to feed him? How did you not go insane?”

Yunho can feel Jaejoong’s agitation. It is so thick in the confined space that it’s making him anxious.

The one-sided conversation is peculiar, but he remembers the beautiful female vampire from his first night, and how she had calmed him from within his mind, that he knows it’s a peculiarity of their kind. Jaejoong is probably talking to another vampire.

He moves tentatively, afraid he might get squashed again, but when he sees Jaejoong continuing to tug at his hair, he squares his thin baby bat shoulders and decides he’ll risk getting squashed if it means distracting the vampire from whatever it is that is clearly bothering him.

Crawling up the vampire’s side, his claws digging in as lightly as he can manage, he gets belly-side, before promptly losing his balance as he stumbles on a particularly hard ridge of muscle. He looks up to find Jaejoong’s gaze on him, his large eyes glittering in the darkness, and for some reason, the stare makes him shy.

Sitting right where he is, the wee bat tries to wrap his wings around himself, for the vampire’s eyes are a little too…hot.

“You haven’t really been with anyone in over 250 years, Jaejoong. Be reasonable. It was the last thing either of us expected to have to warn you about. And who’s to say we haven’t gone insane? We’ve just decided we prefer being Undead rather than meeting the Ultimate Death.”

“What if he doesn’t like males?” Jaejoong feels the claws digging into him and he drops his chin to find the tiny bat scrambling up his side, his almond-shaped eyes large and glowing in the darkness, his tiny little tongue sticking out the corner of his mouth as he concentrates hard on climbing onto Jaejoong’s belly.

He stares as the cute little thing finally tumbles across the planes of his abdomen, to land just about where his belly button is.

“Remember the last meal you were about to have? If that wasn’t jealousy, I don’t know what is. He barely had any strength to hold himself upright and yet he had strength enough to get you away from the handsome human male you wanted to suck on…” The female vampire laughs, the merry sound echoing around Jaejoong’s brain.

Licking at his plush mouth absentmindedly from the memory as he listens to his mother, he watches the little bat who is suddenly trying to seemingly wrap himself in his thin wings. His mother has always been overly direct, and he knows she knew his intentions.

“Is there anything else I should know?” he asks, lifting a finger to stroke the fuzzy head of the little baby bat, smirking when the creature visibly shudders, yet it leans into his finger as if asking for more.

“It’s not his fault that he cannot stand human blood. That’s one of the reasons why it is instant death to whoever harms a bonded pair. He cannot drink from anything except you. Human blood will always be foul to him unless it is mixed with your blood. Soon, you will be the same. It’s probably something to make sure you don’t stray,” she laughs again, feeling that her son seems to be getting used to the idea and is no longer protesting. She had sent a very gentle feeler out a minute ago and she knows the Turned is awake.

“How soon?”

“When you taste him.”

“What if I never do?” his voice has turned into a lazy, languid drawl. His attention is pretty much solely on the little bat who is now splayed out over his abdomen having sunk down into the position from Jaejoong’s soft petting of his head. Nuzzling might be a better word for it for that is basically what the baby bat boy is doing.

Taking liberties really as it nuzzles adorably against the soft skin just over his diaphragm.

“Care to wager on that? I’m your mother and you won’t last a week.”

“If I win, you come over for a visit so I don’t have to suffer draughty castles in the middle of winter.”

“You’re a vampire.”

“And I don’t like castles. Blame it on my childhood,” he replies with a smile as he manages to get a finger underneath the little bat’s chin. He feels Yunho’s sharp pointy little teeth sinking into his flesh, more of a reflex than anything.

He is surprised though when he feels the prick deepen as minuscule fangs grow and lengthen into his finger and the unmistakable pull of the wee thing feeding.

“Uh…” he feels his body stir and he knows there is going to be a lot of trouble if Yunho transforms back and he finds himself praying very very very hard that the baby bat boy is still depleted enough that he won’t.

“You’re not going to last a week.”

And with a final musical chuckle, the presence in his mind disappears.

Instead of removing his finger which was his first instinct, Jaejoong watches instead.

Yunho’s eyes are closed as he feeds and even as the vampire strokes his fuzzy head with his other hand, the little baby bat’s sucking seems to lengthen and slow.

Until it stops altogether, the tiny creature once again feeding himself into a stupor and is back asleep.

Jaejoong shakes his head as he finds the button to unlock the lid and pop it open. He remembers feeding a lot as a newborn too and drinking too much did make him sleepy, but as far as he can tell, Yunho is actually out cold.

All the better for him really, because he has a lot to do while the bat dozes and not having the newborn underfoot would make progress a lot quicker.

Sitting up in the dim room, Jaejoong cradles the sleeping bat to his chest again as he picks up the stained underwear. Looking at the brownish stains and deciding that it’s just a little too icky to be used again, he pulls off his boxers instead.

Baby Bat Boy Jung Jung Yunho is once again wrapped up securely in his minder’s underwear, and it doesn’t even occur to Jaejoong that it is a little odd of him to have given the Turned a used pair instead of a new one since his closet is just on the other side of the door.

Leaving the little bat burrito in the middle of the large coffin, the nude vampire leaves the room, securing the door behind him as he goes about his evening ablutions before he leaves to pack up Yunho’s apartment.

The place is unsecured, and he always knew that the Turned would have to live with him for awhile. However after the conversation he just had with the older vampire, he has to rethink a few things.

First things first.

Order another coffin because they have to sleep separately.

To prolong his sanity if nothing else.

At least that’s what he keeps telling himself.

The little baby bat is dead to the world and completely oblivious to all the planning surrounding his existence, though he may have a thing or two to say about the separate sleeping arrangements when he finds out.

AN1: So the matter did explode and I’m travelling again. I love how my timezones so far have gone from +13 to +8 to GMT to -6 hahaha. What a life.

AN2: Yunho will turn back in the next chapter for anyone who is wondering… :D

AN3: Thank you for the birthday wishes for my husband :-) He's grateful and is in a better mood now lol.

Ooohhh... So Jaejoong is really the son of the elders. So he's like the Vampire Prince or something right since his father heads the Council. I like his mother and can't wait to read more on Jaejoong-parents interaction. I guess Jaejoong should be quite powerful since his makers are such powerful vampire right? Is that why Yunho seems to be rather powerful too even though he's a newborn? Because he's bonded to Jaejoong?

Thanks for the information about why Yunho having to drink from Jaejoong only. I am terrified and don't like bats, but baby bat Yunho is seriously the cutest bat I've ever read.
