Title: Turned
Pairing: Yunho, Jaejoong
Rating: PG
Length: Chaptered
Genre: Supernatural, vampire!AU, fluff, humour
Disclaimer: I don't own anything apart from the story.

Summary: Yunho is one of the Turned, a newly made vampire, completely lost in the ways of the undead for his Maker was cruelly taken from him by the sun the very next morning before he could impart the wisdom of ages (the most important being AVOID THE DAMN SUN). Jaejoong happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is ordered to take the newborn under his wing, much to his dismay for he has never been careless enough to turn anyone, and now he’s saddled with a responsibility that…well…is for eternity unless one of them decides to say hello to the sun.

AN: Sorry, I’m evil or I have cheeky muses…whichever you prefer to blame lol. About half the size as the previous update and twice the frustration? Lol nah I’m nice…sort of.

Even as the words escape his lips, the flush is already out of control, rising steadily and very clearly up his neck.

“Why do you keep doing that?” Jaejoong asks quietly, shaking his head with a brief smile. “You’re always looking for trouble. What are you challenging me to exactly?”

Rubbing the back of his neck in what now appears to be a habit of sorts, the baby vampire casts his gaze down towards the admittedly comfortable-looking interior of his coffin. Expression vaguely sheepish, he fights through the sudden shyness threatening to overcome him. He has no idea where the boldness comes from, just as he doesn’t know why shyness immediately follows it.

It’s a strange duality that both confuses yet exhilarates him.

“Forget I said anything,” he mutters, finally deciding that pursuing this would really be asking for trouble.

In less time than it takes to blink, Jaejoong has Yunho pressed up against a wall of the day chamber.

“You shouldn’t speak of things you have no intention of following through.” While his words hold a scolding note, his tone is gentle. “And you really have no business speaking about things like that in the first place anyway. How about you figure out how to be a vampire first, before you become a proper vampire?”

“Proper?”

“You know,” Jaejoong’s grin is impish as he leans away and against Yunho’s coffin for the space is really rather tight in the room. “Sex and blood. Lots of sex and blood.”

Yunho can feel the heat in his cheeks again but he ignores it as he pushes away from the wall and leans down to press a chaste kiss against the apple of Jaejoong’s cheek. “Now you’re just teasing me,” he pokes Jaejoong playfully in the chest before walking away. “Maybe we can discuss bedtime later. Do you want help plugging up that hole?”

It says a lot that Jaejoong lets that prime opportunity to tease go, his fingertips against his cheek, feeling the weird tingle in his skin where Yunho’s lips made contact, and the strange curls of an unnamed emotion twisting within him.

“I can probably fix this,” Yunho eyes the hole in the wall of the bathroom as he gestures to the shattered shower panel as well. Turning to Jaejoong who has been silently observing him for a few minutes, he suppresses the shiver that runs up his spine at the intent gaze of the older vampire. “Will there be shops open now?”

Jaejoong’s expression morphs from contemplative to mild amusement.

“Do you think you’re ready for the big bad world?”

Yunho crosses his arms self consciously, licking at the corner of his upper lip. The skin there has been tingling for awhile now and it feels strange but oddly comforting as well so he doesn’t comment on it.

“What could be bigger and badder than a vampire?”

“Fair point,” Jaejoong concedes with merest tilt of his head. “Can you kill a human?”

“Kill?” Yunho’s expression shows his distaste. “Do vampires really kill humans?”

The older vampire shrugs. “The Council has an agreement with many governments to dispose of their criminals on death row. And although the Council has recently outlawed this practice, there used to be vampire battalions in some armies. I guess it seems a shame to let all that food go to waste.”

The Turned is dumbfounded, the white of his eyes bright. “Have you…”

“I was practically the poster boy during World War II on this side of the world. Does that bother you?”

The young vampire is slow to respond, but when he finally does, it is to shake his head as he squares his shoulders.

“Blood is our food I guess and I’d rather you be alive than dead from starvation out of some residual human moral compass.”

“Baby boy, starving won’t kill us. Toothless vampire, remember?”

Yunho blushes adorably at the memory for it accompanies the first time he scented the older vampire and it was a done deal for him.

Love at first scent?

He wishes he could describe it, because he’s been wanting to ask the other vampire about it. Or perhaps even another vampire just to get an unbiased opinion. Jaejoong’s scent changes with Yunho’s mood but it is always the perfect scent for whatever mood he is currently in.

The intoxicating scent of honeyed musk, and he tastes like the sweetest milk.

The clean scent of freshly cut roses, and he tastes like the nectar of the gods.

The heady scent of whiskey and smoke, and he tastes like the smoothest and darkest chocolate.

Whichever scent it happens to be, it always seems to linger on Yunho, the quality of it different on him, yet he knows it’s Jaejoong.

All he can do is thank whatever deity watches over vampires that Jaejoong doesn’t smell like what he drinks otherwise Yunho wouldn’t be able to stand being even in the same room.

As it is, the vampire currently smells like some kind of cake and he has to swallow the urge to ask for a feed because he is pretty sure he will taste like strawberries and cream.

“Penny for your thoughts. You’re wasting a lot of blood baby boy.”

Yunho looks up with a soft smile that nearly takes Jaejoong’s breath away, and even admitting that makes him feel strange because no one makes him feel like this.

No one.

Except Yunho.

“It’s not wasted. It makes me feel warm.” Yunho presses his palms to his cheeks, his eyes shining with an odd type of innocence for a vampire.

If Jaejoong is being honest though, he hasn’t met any humans like him either.

“Vampires don’t need warmth.”

“What do they need then?”

“Blood.”

“Blood makes me warm so I guess it’s the same thing.”

“Did anyone ever tell you that you’re kind of weird?”

“Is that a good thing?”

“I’m still undecided.”

“I hope you decide it’s a good thing,” Yunho’s grin is as bright as the sun they will never ever see again. “Come on,” he shimmers and is suddenly crowding Jaejoong against the wall. “Admit it. You think it’s a good thing.”

Jaejoong hums, shaking his head. “Maybe I should mesmerise you into remembering how to walk like a human. At least you’re not crashing into walls anymore.”

The baby Turned pouts and drops his chin to give Jaejoong an Eskimo kiss. “Don’t change the subject.”

Jaejoong’s breath is caught for a moment, and he finds himself invariably leaning into the taller vampire before he catches himself and replies archly. “And if I do think it’s a good thing?”

Yunho’s answering grin is even brighter than before if that’s even possible.

Chuckling helplessly because what else can he do in the face of that type of happiness.

“We still need to get supplies. Do you remember how to mesmerise?”

Instead of replying, the baby vampire pinches Jaejoong’s chin gently to focus him and allow their eyes to meet.

A few seconds pass.

Then maybe a minute.

Or two.

Five minutes go by.

“Have you started?”

Yunho doesn’t deign to comment, wrinkling his nose as he focuses his mind on the wandering vampire’s.

And no matter how hard he tries, it’s like chasing a wisp of smoke. It seems tantalisingly within his grasp but every time he tries to catch it, it vanishes. And even as he concentrates, staring into the dark doe eyes of the beautiful vampire, he feels a nudge against his mind. He feels like he’s in a tunnel, and a voice is speaking to him from the other end - the words hollow and echoey yet crystal clear despite the distance.

“You will sleep in your own coffin.”

The baby vampire frowns.

“You will sleep in your own coffin and like it.”

The frown on that small handsome face deepens.

He hears a musical chuckle, and he tries to fight, but there is nothing to fight with.

“You will sleep in your own coffin, like it, and not complain about it tomorrow.”

There is a feeling of being subsumed, like something is weighing down heavily on it and trying to get in, and yet he can feel the affection in the touch and he responds to that. Since he cannot fight off the feeling, he allows it entry and embraces it.

Jaejoong’s eyes widen when he feels the connection become tighter. Proceeding cautiously for he has never met any vampire that hasn’t tried to fight off a mesmère, he speaks carefully.

“Will you be good and sleep in your own coffin?”

The embrace tightens.

“I will if you want me to.”

Eyes like saucers, Jaejoong doesn’t blink for Yunho’s reply had been silent, rubbing against his mesmère the pouting quality of it evident but he hadn’t vocalised it.

When someone is mesmerised, there isn’t any other way but to do the bidding of the one mesmerising them. The answers are simple and straightforward, and definitely not silent. They are compelled to respond in the way the vampire wants and Jaejoong was definitely only looking for a yes, I will reply.

“Let me go, baby boy.”

“Do you really want me to?”

Jaejoong lifts a hand to cup Yunho’s cheek. The young vampire’s eyes are glowing supernaturally and the russet haired beauty knows that the Turned isn’t trying to mesmerise him, but he’s not obeying him either.

“You need to let me go. I don’t know what you’ve done but I don’t think we should continue until I figure out what this is.”

“Your mother talked to me like this.”

“My mother is over three thousand years old. She can do a lot of things I can’t do.”

“You’ve never done this before?”

“I can converse with my parents like this, and I can read the thoughts of humans if I try hard enough, but no, I’ve never had a conversation with another vampire like this.”

“Can you read my mind?”

The question gives Jaejoong pause, and he refocuses, trying.

Even as he does, he feels the other vampire relaxing against him, both mentally and physically.

Yunho closes his eyes and leans into Jaejoong’s hand, a gentle smile playing about his mouth as he feels the older vampire trying to seek entry.

“You need to pay a toll first before I let you in.”

“A toll?”

“Like on a highway. You have to pay for the privilege of access.”

“Can I afford this toll?”

Jaejoong is startled when his mind is suddenly filled with images, mostly of himself from the Turned’s point of view.

~~~
”Do you want to be known as the Toothless Vampire?”
“Listen, baby bat-boy. Before you bumble back into bat-form and bungle your way through this new life of yours, let’s get one thing very clear.”
“Were you dropped on the head as a child? Used as a ball for soccer practice? Or did your brain stay pea-sized when you transformed back from being that cute little baby bat boy?”
“What if he doesn’t like males?”
“You’re a weird little vampire bat.”
“Where are you Jung Jung Yunho?”
“Tell me…tell me how do you know I like what I see, baby boy?”
“You really need to stop wasting what little blood you get on blushing, baby boy. Vampires don’t blush.”
~~~

And accompanying the short cinematic reel is an escalation of emotions that keeps growing.

Each frame he is shown, the feeling intensifies.

He can feel his Turned.

His hapless confusion over his new powers.

His conviction that he will overcome it all.

His excitement at new experiences.

His longing to be seen as an equal.

His uncertainty over his abilities.

His eagerness to learn quickly.

His impatience to get it right.

His pure and genuine trust.

His selfless gift of love.

The 261 year old vampire is overwhelmed.

A bond doesn’t create love.

A bond creates a dependence.

Yunho truly doesn’t want his blood.

He wants him.

Is this your price?”

Yunho’s eyes open, his gaze clear and honest.

“If it is, do you want to pay it?”

“Can I think about it?”

There is very minute tensing in their connection, and Jaejoong is inexplicably saddened when he is suddenly set adrift.

Yunho steps back, his expression vaguely regretful though Jaejoong is unsure as to what it is directed at.

“Of course you can.”

Jaejoong feels the loss acutely as Yunho turns away from him.

He has never felt the way he did in that moment — the desperate yearning to reconnect, and so he does the only thing he can think of in that moment, unable to be completely honest with himself let alone with Yunho just yet.

“You need to feed before we go out.”

Yunho pauses and turns slowly. “Why?”

“Your mesmère didn’t work very well.”

“It’s never worked on you.”

“Then…then why did you try?”

The young vampire suddenly seems younger than he is, his shoulders hunching slightly as he pockets both his hands in his pants and stares at the tiled floor of the bathroom.

“I don’t know.”

The tension in the room ramps up a notch.

“You need to feed.” Jaejoong tries again.

Lifting his eyes from the floor, Yunho’s gaze is direct and unflinching.

“Do I need to feed or do you need me to feed?”

“I…”

This time it is older vampire with the mono-letter impairment.

“Can you be honest about at least that?”

“I…” Jaejoong trails off, unable to complete his sentence. He’s been alone for too long and dishonest with himself for much longer.

He envied his parents.

He envied their connection.

He envied that they always have each other no matter what.

His envy was eating at him and he couldn’t stand being around for too long them.

And thanks to what he now knows and understands as their bond, he isolated himself for fear of being unable to replicate something like that with someone else.

He doesn’t look too hard for a companion for fear of disappointment.

And after getting over his hedonistic phase, he convinced himself that he was better of alone.

It made him a little bitter, manifesting in his short temper, impatience for the world in general, and the need to maintain a semblance of control over his life since he has chosen to be alone.

Then in comes a hapless little baby bat boy who despite Jaejoong’s initial distaste for being saddled with such a burdensome Turned, squeaks his way into the vampire’s heart.

And sees right through him.

Yunho sighs, lifting a hand to card through his hair, forcing a smile. “Don’t worry about it. Don’t worry about me. I can’t see myself in the mirror so I’m sure I’ve got enough blood to ensure my powers last at least a short trip to the shops. We really should get going.”

“You need to feed.”

Yunho shakes his head. “I don’t need to feed.”

“I need you to feed.”

Cocking his head, Yunho’s stare is almost as disconcerting as Jaejoong’s.

“Can I think about it?”

Though it feels like he’s just been slapped, Jaejoong accepts the mirror to his own answer and nods, forcing a smile himself, he holds a hand out.

Yunho stares at the vampire, before he takes the proffered hand and turns it face up, his thumb rubbing gently over the vein in Jaejoong’s wrist.

“Do you know that your feelings show on your face?” he asks, bringing up the other’s hand and kissing his inner wrist.

“What are you doing?”

Yunho’s eyebrow raises quizzically. “You wanted me to feed, right?”

“But you said—“

Pressing another kiss against his wrist, Yunho’s fangs drop as he pulls away, his expression solemn as he gazes into the other’s confused doe eyes.

“I’m sorry for saying that. I didn’t think it would hurt you but it did.”

“You didn’t mean it?”

Yunho smiles ruefully as he runs his nose along the soft skin of the vampire’s inner arm.

“I may not feel thirst, but I do feel hunger.”

“They’re the same,” Jaejoong replies, but even as he does, he knows its a lie. He knows there is a difference.

There is one hell of a difference.

“Really?”

The three-day old vampire who really shouldn’t know a damn thing and be a good and obedient little Turned who follows his Maker’s instructions about everything.

The three-day old vampire who should be having flying lessons and learning how to transform with his clothes on and practicing how to walk at human speed and manage his newfound strength.

The three-day old vampire who should want to feed constantly and be fighting to control his thirst for blood and be worried about his reflection and mesmerising humans into forgetting they had just met him.

But no.

Jaejoong’s three-day old Turned doesn’t care about any of that.

He enjoys arguing with Jaejoong and while the lush vampire can be more than a handful, he’s a fast learner and learned that standing his ground gains him more than giving ground.

He hates flying and it will be a cold day in hell before he tries flying out the window, but if he has to chase after an upset veteran vampire, this baby bat boy Jung Jung Yunho will gladly do it without a second thought.

He doesn’t really think his minder is a pervert, but the fact that Jaejoong purposefully doesn’t want to teach him how to transform with his clothes on seems rather suspect though he really doesn’t mind if the vampire’s intentions towards his person are a little crooked.

He is pretty sure he is now a grade A pupil in walking like a human and he never had any problems mesmerising anyone except his adopted Maker, and while he wonders why that is, he figures he’s done one better by being able to share conversations in his head with the other — that should count for an A+ at the very least.

He may still be a B-grade student in maintaining a reflection and he has no idea if he knows how to control his strength because it wasn’t him who punched a hole through a ten-inch thick load-bearing wall, and he while he cares a big fat zilch for human blood, he would be more than content to be allowed to stay by Jaejoong’s side and drink from him for the eternity that will be their existence, unable to even think about nor imagine his immortal life without the other.

Yunho’s fangs pierce Jaejoong’s skin and he smiles into wild doe eyes when the first taste hits his tongue.

Strawberries and cream.

AN1: Also the tingling is from marks forming from the first kisses :P Basically their main moles :3 Yunho didn’t kiss Jaejoong in ch6, he licked him. Jaejoong kissed Yunho in ch7 but not quite on the mouth. Of course, if I somehow missed an earlier kiss, please tell me where so I can delete that earlier kiss OTL

AN2: I guess a teensy teensy spoonful of angst helps the fluff go down? It’s super teensy ok…we’ll go back to our regularly scheduled fluff I promise. I was in a mood prolly cos my period is due or sth idk but yeah…

AN3: Also, this was meant to be A SHORT FIC. Though jasexists told me she wouldn’t mind if it’s as long as ICE lol. Idk if she’ll still think that after this chapter but yeah ;-)

I love this chapter. YunJae have finally connected to a certain level. Jaejoong may feel like Yunho is his equal now and Yunho defenitelly and intentionally said those words to know how he feels. I think out of all your fics, this one really brings us into YunJae's mentally connection and I didn't mean it in the obvious way. Hope this fic isn't ICE long though. As it is mainly related to mentality and connection between both, it would literally be frustrating for them to endure everything for that long lol. On the other hand, this fic would make good drabbles and one shots though.
